How to Make Dua That Feels Personal Instead of Repetitive

Yusuf Rahman
Hands raised in supplication

Many of us learned beautiful duas as children and still rely on them. That is good. But personal dua is where the heart opens widest.

Start with praise. Use the names of Allah you understand. Ar-Rahman, Al-Wadud, Al-Hakeem. Each name shapes what you ask for.

Be specific. Instead of saying bless my family, name what they need. Health for your mother, confidence for your son, ease for your spouse.

Admit weakness honestly. Allah already knows, but your acknowledgment is part of surrender.

Do not rush. Sit after the adhan, after salah, or before sleep without looking at the clock.

Write duas that were answered. Looking back builds certainty that Allah hears you even when the answer is wait or something better.
