Why Saying Salam to Strangers Still Matters
Amina Hassan

In elevators, parking lots, and store aisles, many of us stay silent by habit. The Prophet, peace be upon him, encouraged spreading salam widely, not only among close friends.
Begin with a warm Assalamu Alaikum when eye contact happens naturally. Respect comfort and culture, but do not let fear of awkwardness erase a beautiful tradition.
Teach children to greet elders and peers. Repetition builds confidence that lasts into adulthood.
Online spaces count too. Opening a message with salam changes the tone before any debate begins.
Expect nothing in return. Some people will reply, some will not. Your reward is not their response.
